Statutory write-off cars at auction in Australia
A statutory write-off is a vehicle so severely damaged it can never be repaired and returned to the road — anywhere in Australia. It is recorded on the Written-Off Vehicle Register (WOVR) and sold for parts, dismantling, scrap, or export. Unlike a repairable write-off (which can be re-registered after inspection), a statutory write-off is permanently off the road. They sell at salvage auction across Pickles, Manheim, IAAI, Grays and Slattery — tracked here in one place.

Frequently asked questions
What is a statutory write-off? expand_more
A statutory write-off is a vehicle with damage so severe — major structural, fire or flood damage — that it can never be repaired and returned to the road. It is recorded on the national Written-Off Vehicle Register (WOVR) as "statutory" and is sold only for parts, dismantling, scrap metal or export.
What is the difference between a statutory and a repairable write-off? expand_more
A statutory write-off can never be re-registered for road use anywhere in Australia — it is for parts or scrap only. A repairable write-off may be repaired and, after the required state inspection, re-registered. The classification is set by the insurer/assessor and recorded on the WOVR.
Can you re-register a statutory write-off in Australia? expand_more
No. Unlike a repairable write-off, a statutory write-off cannot be returned to the road in any state or territory. Every state honours the national WOVR statutory classification.
Why buy a statutory write-off? expand_more
For genuine used parts at a fraction of new, as a donor vehicle for a rebuild, for dismantling/recycling, or for export to a country that permits it. Run a PPSR check to confirm the WOVR record before bidding.
